Johann Sponar: Why did KAYENTIS choose Pennsylvania to get set up in the USA?
Orélie Cathaud: First of all, KAYENTIS strategically selected several potential set-up sites on the East Coast of the United States: Boston, New York and Philadelphia were the principal targets. Once we had visited and studied the different options and compared the market opportunities in regard to potential clients for the technology proposed by KAYENTIS, we soon began to focus on Pennsylvania and, more specifically, the city of Philadelphia.
Johann Sponar: What were the aspects that made you focus on Philadelphia?
Orélie Cathaud: Philadelphia is located barely 2 hours from New York and Washington DC, where most of the national Health and Pharmaceutical conferences are held. Boston is also easily-accessible by plane.
It is geographically close to the biotech companies and pharmaceutical laboratories and on the edge of Delaware and New Jersey - we saw a great number of business development opportunities. Thanks to the Science Center (a business incubator located in Philadelphia), we were able to set up our North American head-office very quickly and get all the help we needed to efficiently and rapidly start doing business.
Johann Sponar: Did you receive special assistance from Pennsylvania?
Orélie Cathaud: KAYENTIS got support from the region's biotech associations, which made access to the market simpler and contributed to the quick set-up of our client networks. The State of Pennsylvania was the principal catalyst of these different networks.
